The Q-Wiki Content Editor makes it easy to create and work with tables in a Q-Wiki. The tools for working with tables are contained within the middle row of the Q-Wiki Content Editor:

table tools

How to Create a Table

To create a table, move your cursor to the location on the page where you want the table to reside, and click the Insert a Table button. When you click this button, a pop-up window appears that contains a number of fields that allow you to customize the table that you want to insert.

The list below summarizes the fields and what they do:

  • Columns: Lets you specify how many columns the table should have.
  • Rows: Lets you specify how many rows you want the table to have.
  • Cellpadding: Lets you specify how much space exists between the contents of the cell and the boundary of the cell.
  • Cellspacing: Lets you specify how much space exists between the cells of the table.
  • Alignment: Lets you specify whether you want the table to be left justified, centered, or right justified. If you don’t set the alignment of the table it will default to the left.
  • Border: Defines the thickness of the tables borders. Borders set to  0 are invisible.
  • Width: Lets you define the total width of the table, in pixels. The maximum allowable width for a table is 500 pixels. If you don’t set the width of the table in your table, the table will stretch to fit whatever you type or put into it.
  • Height: Lets you define the total height of the table, in pixels. If you don’t set the height of the table in your table, the table will stretch to fit whatever you type or put into it.
  • Class: A class is a set of style definitions that you can apply to a table. At the moment, no classes have been set up for tables in Q-Wiki, so you should ignore this field.
  • Table caption: Creates a table that can accommodate a caption (for instructions on how to add the caption, see below)

Once you’ve made the selections you desire, click Insert. The table will appear in the work area of the Q-Wiki Content Editor.

How to Work with a Table You’ve Created

Once you’ve created a table, you can modify it to meet your needs. There are a number of ways to modify already existing tables.

  • The Insert Table Button table insert: Select a table that you’ve already created by clicking on it, then click the Insert Table Button. The same pop-window that you used to create the table will appear. You can modify some of the fields in this window to modify the table.
  • The Table Row Properties button table row properties: Select the rows in the table that you want to modify, then click the button. A pop-up window appears that lets you:
    • Define whether the selected rows are part of a heading or part of the table’s body.
    • Set the horizontal alignment for text in the cells of the selected row(s).
    • Set the vertical alignment for text in the cells of the selected row(s).
    • Set a class. A class is a set of style definitions that you can apply to a table. At the moment, no classes have been set up for table rows in Q-Wiki, so you should ignore this field.
    • Set a height for the cells in the selected row(s).
  • The Cell Properties button table cell properties: Select the cell(s) in the table that you want to modify, then click the button. A pop-up window appears that lets you:
    • Set the horizontal alignment of text entered in the selected cell(s).
    • Set the vertical alignment of text entered in the selected cell(s).
    • Set the cell width. Setting a cell’s width will set all the cells in the same column to that width as well. If you don’t set the widths of the cells in your table, the cells will stretch to fit whatever you type or put into them.
    • Set the cell height. Please note that setting a cell’s height will set all the cells in the same row to that height as well. If you don’t set the height of the cells in your table, the cells will stretch to fit whatever you type or put into them.
    • Set a class.A class is a set of style definitions that you can apply to a table. At the moment, no classes have been set up for cells in Quamut Wiki, so you should ignore this field.
  • Insert or Delete row buttons: These buttons allow you to add or remove a row in a table. To use them, select a row in the table, then click the button you want.
    insert delete rows
  • Insert or Delete column buttons: These buttons allow you to add or remove a column in a table. To use them, select a column in the table, then click the button you want.
    insert delete columns
  • Merge cells and Split merged cells buttons: The merge cell button allows you to join two cells in a table so that they become one cell. To use it, highlight the cells you want to merge, and click the button. The split merged cells button lets you split merged cells back into their original parts. To use it, highlight a merged cell and click the button.
